The visual|catalogues System - Stay in Control of your data

navigation v|c Enterprise

visual|catalogues is a shareware system for generating catalogs or brochures of visual information off-line and using these in-house or across your local network, or publishing these on-line to the Internet for access from public web pages, for displaying on an Intranet, or for distributing free or for sale on CD-Rom or CD business card.

The system is visual in that it displays thumbnail images of items which provide at-a-click access to more detailed visual representations, such as larger images, movies, textual documentation, or to the many other types of representations and file types that can added as part of each cataloged item's record.

The three catalog generation modules support creation of single or multiple catalogs and allow single or multiple seat access (depending on the module you purchase). All versions allow you to publish at-a-click to a local hard drive for network or Intranet access, or for creating CD-ROM, DVD or CD Business Cards (electronic business card) creation, or to go on-line for publishing to a catalog web page on the Internet or external Intranet.

Applications
The visual|catalogs system can be used for large and small, complex and simple catalogs, allows categorisation of how data is both held and displayed, allows many different kinds of items to be cataloged and viewed, and displays the information about these in different suitable ways, via a common easy-to-use interface.

Search Engine
visual|catalogs Professional and Enterprise versions include a new kind of very powerful, highly accurate, search engine, which allows users to search using single keywords (which generate prompts) or by entering natural language expressions. The search can filter on item name(s) (noun), adjectival descriptions (such as colour, material finish and style), location and/or context, size, price and date. Multiple keywords can be assigned to each individual item, and the system allows for the addition of both synonyms and null words, the latter allowing natural language expressions to be allowed for in search expressions.

The system can be set up to allow users to search across single or multiple catalogs from one interface, either on-line or from network or CD Rom.

Cross-platform Viewing
For end-users to view catalogs, the system includes a cross-platform pure JAVA applet, as well as a Windows viewer which will in most cases run without installation from any Windows 95, 98, NT 4, 2000 or XP system. Both interfaces are provided as part of the system, along with web page templates and other setup files, for royalty free distribution if the catalog is distributed for free. (See Licenses).

Creating catalogs
The software for creating catalogs is available in various modules. Jump to the products page to download evaluation versions. The form based catalog creation modules are designed with a number of common features to make it as quick and easy as possible for you to work. The system allows you to create hierarical categories to hold your records, and allows end-users to browse through these quickly, making choices from the thumbnails. The system can be used to catalog different types of entries, and provides different interfaces for working with these. Entries can be as simple as images, or as complex as 3D computer models.

Extending Data representations

catalogs can be extended, so that a simple catalog of products represented as images, can be used as the basis for an e-catalog or catalog of virtual products (3D models, materials libraries etc) that can be developed later.

Virtual catalogs for Virtual Environments
The system includes support for interactive use of cataloged items in the virtual 3D environment in programs such as AutoCAD. A virtual catalog allows an end user (e.g. an architect or designer) to use real products for design and visualisation in the 3D CAD or virtual environment for visualisation. The system includes advanced interactive tools to facititate this.

Typical product catalogs that might be suitable for this treatment are:

materials such as floor and wall finishes and fabrics, furniture, fixtures and fittings such as kitchen system, office desking, etc., profiles such as skirtings and cornices,

E-commerce solution...available very soon
The cross platform e-commerce solution will be available soon, and will allow email ordering from a CD Rom, and e-commerce enabled catalogs to be accessed searched, products tested in the virtual environment, and required items ordered.
